Discover the beach and sea turtles during this day trip to Braamspunt.

The turtles are a must-see for anyone who visits Surinam. Matapica has two kinds of turtles: the tortoise and the leatherback. The turtle season runs from late february till july.

This trip departs around 16:00 at Fietsen in Suriname/ Zus & Zo to the Grote Combeweg. From here we will take the bus to the Leonsberg where we'll get into a canoe. This canoe takes us along New Amsterdam and the confluence of the Suriname and Commewijneriver. With a tiny bit of luck we will have the opportunity to spot dolphins and birds.

Furthermore, we leave the Surinamerivier and sail into the Atlantic ocean. After a few minutes of sailing, we will approach the beach. On arrival there is the possibility to explore the area or take a refreshing dip in the ocean.

After the dip, it's time to eat. After dinner, the guide's going to make a campfire while watching the sunset.

When the night has fallen, it's time to look for turtles. When a turtle is spotted, the guide will indicate what we are going to do and how we are going to do it. It is very important to follow these instructions as they should not disturb the turtles during this process.

After this magical encounter with the turtles, it is time to return to Leonsberg. Here we will get back on the bus to Paramaribo. Because this trip ends at midnight, de bus stops at everyone’s residence.
